Elizabeth's Tree House shortlisted for the Institute of Structural Engineers Awards 2017

Following on from receiving an award for ‘Building of the Year’ at the Building and Architect of the Year Awards 2017, Elizabeth’s Tree House has made it to the shortlist for the Institute of Structural Engineers Awards 2017 and we are delighted that the “Dining Hall at Barretstown” project has been shortlisted in the £1-3m Category.

The project presented a number of challenges and how CORA responded to the issues is highlighted in the “Judges Comments” below:

The Structural Engineering of Barretstown Hall is a wonderful example of structural engineering enhancing and contributing to the quality of a building. In this case, the exposed timber structure’s diagrid roof and elegant tripod cigar shaped columns provide the necessary function of the building, respond to constraints of the site and at the same time provide a playful and aesthetically appealing interior. The engineering is a sensitive response to both the natural environment outside and the purpose of the building and its intended use inside. This is achieved through choice of materials and careful attention to detail and form.
