“The architectural team listened carefully to our needs as providers of medical services and the result is a thoroughly modern, calming space that has flexibility and patient comfort at the centre of its design.
A challenge of the site was the north facing aspect between tall buildings. The use of natural daylight and the bright, bold treatment of the curved edged mezzanine level have resulted in a space that patients comment on as ‘welcoming’ and ‘cheerful’. Design features such as high levels of sound insulation between consulting rooms ensure maximum comfort for both staff and patients.
The quality of the environment achieved reflects our objective to create a ‘best of type’ medical centre to meet the highest universal access and HIQA standards.”
Hanover Medical Centre
Hanover Medical is a fit-out for a new general practice located in the Dublin Docklands. The brief demanded the insertion of a mezzanine floor hung from the slab above. The design concept evolved around enveloping the suspended mezzanine level rooms in a brightly coloured form. Architecturally, the playfulness of the curved shape was contrasted with the strength of the rigid external façade structure. Tall glass screens partly obscured balance privacy of the patients with quality of light and airiness.
The ground floor is occupied with reception, waiting area and nurse’s room and further consultation rooms sit above on the mezzanine level handling a number of medical disciplines including nutrition and physiotherapy. The palette of materials was selected to create a bright and fresh space using citrus yellow for the suspended volume with limed oak for the timber joinery and crisp white for the walls.
