2 Grand Canal Square
No. 2 Grand Canal Square Offices completes one of the last segments of the development of Grand Canal Square and are located to the south of the new 2000 seat Bord Gáis Energy Theatre designed by Daniel Libeskind. No2 GCS to the south is joined to the theatre and opens onto Grand Canal Square. The office building features complex glazing systems using twin skin facades with integral solar blinds to reduce the effects of solar gain. The facades also feature an external pattern baked onto the glass to further reduce solar gain. This pattern uses an innovative design of green and red frits inspired by colours in the Book of Kells.
The floor plates provide the large open space required by modern tenants and have been designed with maximum flexibility to work for both open plan and cellular layouts. Each office has access onto a landscaped roof terrace with views over the entire city and out to the Irish Sea. Partnering with Daniel Libeskind’s office, McCauley Daye O’Connell developed the design of the offices from the initial scheme design into a developed design for planning and construction to meet the client’s brief for high-specification, environmentally sensitive and sustainable commercial offices. BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating has been awarded to 2 Grand Canal Square Development by BRE Global.
